LIFE SIGN IN SAHARA LIBYAN

Signs of Life in the Sahara. by © Libyan Soup.
Today, one of the only signs of life in the vast barren wastelands of the Sahara are the beautiful paintings and carvings left by early man over the last 12,000 years.

Before climate change lead to desertification, the Sahara was once a lush and fertile land where cattle and sheep were herded by early man. This era is depicted in scenes from the Pastoral period of rock painting which spanned between 5000 and 2000 BC.

That means the paintings above are between 7,000 and 4,000 years old.

Other paintings and carvings nearby that depict big game such as giraffe and elephants are 12,000 years old.
